In the year 2371, the straight-handled Type-II ("cobra") was replaced with
one that has a curved handle ("boomerang"). The elements of the design were
then refined further, giving an overall sleeker appearance.
In addition to providing a more modern look to the phaser, the property
designer also solved the problem of actors aiming too high, a very common
problem arising from the unergonomic nature of the straight-handled version.
This kit is the roddenberry.com hollow kit. Some refinement went into the
grip, green display bar, and front nozzle, to make them fit better. The
original prop was painted with Plastikote GM7173 Silver Sand. However, the
Duplicolor equivalent was used because of availability reasons. All black
pieces are painted with Krylon Semi-Flat Black.
